Glycolic Acid Peel
Glycolic acid peels help with hyperpigmentation, such as melasma, or pigmentation after acne or rashes. They can also help with fine lines and skin texture. Glycolic acid peels are generally considered medium depth peels. The depth of the peel may be controlled in two ways – acid may be left on the skin for a longer time or the percentage of acid may be increased. We typically begin at 35%. A full strength glycolic acid peel is 70%. We recommend a series of peels usually three to six at one month intervals for the best results. Peels may be farther apart to maintain results. The deeper the peel the longer the recovery time. Most people have redness and peeling for up to 3 days. For milder peels, there may be redness only the first day and minimal peeling. It is usually best to avoid makeup until the next day.
