Treatment of Warts
Warts and Molluscum Contagiosum are not dangerous and typically require several treatments over several months. In most cases they will resolve on their own in 1 year. They do not require treatment. As a result, many insurance companies are instituting additional procedural fees. The required fee (deductibles, co-insurances, and copays) is charged for each additional follow up appointment. Due to this Dr. Rencic recommends trying home treatments for 2 months prior to making an appointment to have them treated. Please see the information below for recommended home treatments to try before calling the office to schedule an appointment.

Chemical Destruction Of Warts/Molluscum
Medicated Band aides containing 40% Salicylic Acid. These are available in most pharmacies and located in the foot care section. You can also try similar therapies such as Compound W and Wart Sticks. These should be applied at night and only to the wart itself as it can irritate normal skin. After a few days of using the medication the wart will start to turn gray. That means that the chemical has begun to destroy the wart. Scrape the gray wart tissue off with the point of a metal nail file every second to third day. This also helps for the medication to penetrate better. Do the scraping after a shower or bath has softened the warts surface. Whatever you use to scrape the wart should not be used on anything else as warts are somewhat contagious and have the tendency to spread. Continue this treatment for 2 months if no improvement is noticed contact our Office to schedule an appointment to have Dr. Rencic treat it.
