Glycolic Acid Peel
Glycolic acid peels help with hyperpigmentation, such as melasma or pigmentation after acne or rashes. They can also help with fine lines and improvement in skin texture. Glycolic acid peels are generally considered medium depth peels. The depth of the peel may be controlled in two ways. The acid may be left on the skin for a longer time or the percentage of the acid may be increased. We typically begin at 35%. A full strength glycolic acid peel is 70%. Typically we recommend a series of peels usually three to six done at one month intervals for the best results. Peels may be done farther apart in time to maintain results. The deeper the peel the longer the recovery time. Most people have redness and peeling for up to 3 days. For milder peels, there may be redness only the first day and minimal peeling. It is usually best to avoid makeup until the next day.
